By Zach Batia
House speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday that the House would be opening up a formal impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump following news that the commander in chief asked a foreign leader to aid him in investigating a political rival.
The latest scandal involving the president revolves around a whistleblower complaint exposing a conversation with the president of Ukraine in which Trump repeatedly pressured his european counterpart to open an investigation into leading democratic candidate Joe Biden, according to a rough transcript of the call released by the white house.
Pelosi had previously been opposed to impeachment, but the Ukraine scandal has caused a swell of support from democrats to open the inquiry after Trump has numerous times flirted with the boundaries of the law, according to a report from CNN.
The inquiry makes Trump just the fourth US president to face impeachment, according to the New York Times.
