International News - Trump admits discussing Biden with Ukraine following whistleblower complaint
By Zach Batia
President Donald Trump admitted sunday to discussing potential presidential campaign opponent Joe Biden with the president of the Ukraine following a whistleblower complaint from within the white house, according to multiple news reports.
Trump claims to have done nothing wrong, claiming that the conversation largely had to do with "That we don't want our people like Vice President Biden and his son [contributing] to the corruption already in the Ukraine," according to CBS.
If Trump asked a foreign leader to investigate a potential campaign opponent, it would be a second known incident of election interference to arise from the Trump administration following Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Trump claims that his queries regarding Biden to Ukraine were justified due to a $250 million assistance payment to Ukraine, saying that "we don't want a country that we're going to be giving massive aid to to be corrupting our system," according to Vox News.
That payment was due this summer, but Trump has delayed paying it, with some suggesting he may have been withholding the money in an attempt to convince Ukrainian leaders to investigate Biden.
