International news - Trump declares U.S. "locked and loaded" in wake of Saudi oil attacks
By Zach Batia
Following coordinated strikes on several key Saudi oil facilities Saturday, President Trump declared the U.S. "locked and loaded pending verification" of the responsible party, according to a report from CNN.
The president tweeted that he possessed "reason to believe that we know the culprit," while other white house officials echoed the president's sentiments and identified Iran as the perpetrator, according to Politico. Iran has denied responsibility.
The attacks, which were significant enough to disrupt 5% of the planet's daily oil supply, were claimed by Yemen's Houthi rebels, a group often backed by Iran, according to CNN.
CNN military experts examining satellite photos of the oil facilities determined that the airborne attacks almost certainly originated from Iraq or Iran as opposed to Yemen, but stressed that their assessment is not definitive.
