The Florida Panthers announced Sunday that the team has come to terms with free agent center Brian Boyle on a one year, $940,000 contract.

The Panthers have had a slow start to a season in which expectations are sky high following the signings of high profile free agents Sergei Bobrovsky and Anton Stralman, going 3-2-3 in their first eight games.

Boyle provides depth at center, where Florida is dealing with an injury to franchise forward Aleksander Barkov. The club also sent former first round pick Henrik Borgstrom to AHL Springfield in a corresponding move.

The 34-year-old is most well known for his veteran leadership and 6'-6'' frame. Prior to the 2017-18 season, Boyle was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia, but managed to suit up for 69 contests, being recognized with the Masterton Trophy for perseverance, according to Sporting news.

Boyle has played over 750 games in his NHL career, scoring 124 goals and 216 points, according to Yahoo sports.
