President Donald Trump abruptly announced on Saturday the cancellation of his plans to host the G7 summit at his Trump International hotel near Miami following bipartisan criticisms of his self servient proposition.

Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney initially announced Trump's choice of the resort, located in Doral, Florida, on Thursday. Mulvaney described the hotel as "far and away the best physical facility for this meeting," according to Vox.

The Trump administration had promised to host the event "at cost," but did not specify any details of how costs and profit lines would be determined. Critics on both sides of the aisle brought up potential conflicts with the emoluments act, according to CNN.

Trump tweeted that the administration would consider using Camp David, home of the previous G8 summit in the US in 2012, as an alternative location.
