International news - Key diplomat Sondland reverses testimony on Trump Ukraine dealings, acknowledges quid pro quo
By Zach Batia
Gordon Sondland, a top US diplomat and key impeachment proceedings witness, reversed a testimony to House officials, acknowledging President Trump attempted a quid pro quo in dealing with Ukraine.
Sondland's updated testimony reveals that he told a top Ukrainian official that a military aid package worth hundreds of millions of dollars was "likely" contingent on the European nation publicly announcing a number of investigations that would benefit Trump politically, according to Politico.
The updated testimony directly walks back Sondland's previous claim that he "never" thought there was any precondition on the aid package, which he had testified last month while under oath, according to The New York Times.
Impeachment proceedings are set to continue with additional testimonies this week. Democratic leaders have stated their intent to take impeachment hearings and other procedures public by the end of November.
